The Power Of Prejudice

Injustice is one of the many problems in our society and is usually plagued with corruption. Injustice towards people of ethnic minorities, have and always has been suffering a great deal in today's mega-industrialized economies. Examples of injustice are when someone is innocent but guilty otherwise. Society is and always will have problems, everything that has a benefit has a con. To Kill A Mockingbird was written and published on July 11, 1960. The book was written by Harper Lee, who has written one other book last year called Go Set A Watchman which is similar to To Kill A Mockingbird. When Atticus proceeded to say “She was white, and she tempted a negro. She did something in our society is unspeakable: she kissed a black man. Not an old Uncle, but a strong young negro man. No code mattered to her before she broke it, but it came crashing down on her afterwards”(Lee 204). Atticus is standing for a coloured man who has done nothing wrong. But him supporting Tom is just but goes against society itself, the irony. When Mayella Ewell made this decision we could not tell of her mental state in the book, in the movie it shows very well that she was unresponsive, shaky, anxious and sad. But she had a right to be nervous in her situation. Atticus is supporting Tom because he thinks he is doing what is right, just because Tom is coloured does not mean he does not deserve an equal chance. He is trying to move maycomb to a fair and equal town, which is a epicenter of prejudice Even though he is only one man he believes everything counts and that this may cause a ripple effect throughout maycomb and farther. He wants everyone to notice that everyone is equal and the colour of their skin does not matter. And the fact the Mr. Ewell proceeded to beat and harm Mayella after she tried to sleep with a man of colour was clearly revealed in court, but the jury does not care a person of colour against 2 white people's words. He has managed to successfully create a ripple effect to lower prejudice and racism towards coloured people in the town of Maycomb very well, although he has not completely shifted opinions he has to a step in the right direction to a brighter future. The Author, Harper Lee has managed to write a great book with many plot twists and diversified characters, To Kill A Mockingbird really shows each character's individual traits and what they stand for. Society has learned a great deal from this for now and for then, we have transformed our society, tolerance for minorities has raised and this is the direction we needed to take as a
