The last 2 chapters in the novel Innercity Girl Like Me the action taking place shapes the future of the protagonists. The four main characters go on their separate ways and some things begin to become out of control for them. To start off, Lenore McKay, mother of Roland, Darrel and Gina dies from a fatal heart attack that leaves Darrel a changed man towards G-Child. He then begins to abuse her physically and verbally eventually throwing out her back in the process. He blames his actions on the death of his mother and continuously repeats his actions towards Maria. This then prompts maria to think of Jessica not wanting out of an abusive relationship and how crazy she was for not leaving, but then she compares herself and doesn't see any difference in their relationship. Maria wanting to start a new life out of selling drugs and doing illegal gang activities is influenced by her boyfriend Darrel and forces her to sell crack again. She wants out of the gang life but doesn't have the self esteem to run away from the type of relationship she was stuck in. She believes she was born to suffer the way she does making her feel empty, powerless, no self control which ate way at her pride and self worth. Near the end the novel, Jessica’s body was found in a river after being suffocated by Tyson, he abuser that eventually took it too far causing 21 year old Jessica Fox to be pronounced dead. As violet reaches 7 months pregnant, her and roland make an decision to move to Calgary to get away from the Innercity life they have been living and to start off fresh in their new home and invited Maria to come as they know her situation at her apartment with Darrel. G-Child then decides to start fresh with the two. As G-Child hangout with Gina one more time as friends at a party, they are then chased by Street Ryders while they try to kill
