Quarantine Needs to Sit in a Corner Quarantine was created to prevent the spread physical sickness, but sadly, these facilities just exchange physical sickness for mental sickness. Insane asylums, where the patients are kept in quarantine, are quite ironic due to the fact that being in quarantine can lead to extreme mental problems during, and after, being contained. These organizations are intended to help control the patient’s illness, yet make it worse by leaving them without social interaction. These negative effects happen to almost all brains placed in quarantine, not just ones placed in an insane asylum. People praise quarantine and they argue it helps the community, but one can wonder if they ever consider the detrimental negative effects of this practice. Due to the negative alterations to the brain and social skills, someone who might be contaminated should not be placed in quarantine as they will be without human interaction. Through studies, it has been realized that if the incubation period is short enough, “then the epidemic can be eliminated without using isolation” (Podder 2), which means patients wouldn’t have to lose motivation due to containment. It is implied that one can lose motivation while being contained because after removal, “emotional distress, and loss of income [are] the most frequently reported problems” (Reynolds 998). This is because they do not feel motivated to do their work due to the fact that during their stay in quarantine, they had to do nothing at all, and had nothing with them to motivate them to try and do something. In a motivation driven world, it’s very hard to do something without it. The person is a part of a community, and if they are not motivated, then it creates a cycle of unmotivated people, which is not something the world needs or
