Everyday millions of people make important decisions that could potentially affect their lives forever. Throughout my life I have learned that the decisions I make not only affect myself, but also affect the people around me. As I approach the beginning of my nursing career I will implant my own principles that I believe have an important role in decision making. Therefore, my beliefs in integrity, respect, and compassion will play a great role throughout my nursing career.

I believe integrity plays a major role in life because it allows one to live in simplicity. Integrity consist of honesty and truthfulness to one’s self and others. Honesty can be hard to achieve in life, but through honesty I believe individuals are able to make stronger connections to others and are able to gain trust from others. This is very important when in the professional field of nursing because as a nurse I want my patients to have trust in me. I believe if I am honest and truthful with my patients they will have a sense in trust in my knowledge about their diagnosis, and they will have trust in me to help them recover and overcome whatever their condition may

It important for me to have compassion towards others because I never know what kind of situation a person has been through. I will never forget the way my Mother Betsy was always compassionate towards others when I was growing up. My mother would always find herself helping someone who was in need whether it was someone who was homeless or someone who needed a shoulder to cry on. My mother has shown me what it means to be compassionate to others. Throughout my nursing career I will show my patients compassion towards their situations. I believe it’s important to show compassion because it could be the very thing that get a patient through their day.
