Introduction
Intensive aftercare is a reinforcement therapy done on a person following a release from a correctional facility, and is monitored using a desired program to prevent them from going back to their previous criminal activities; which resulted in them being admitted to the facility. In three years almost 7 out of 10 released males were rearrested and half taken back to prison (a national study, the urban Institute 2003) thus the need to come up with an intensive aftercare program after their release. It involves private agencies and volunteers who ensure the community correction process is implemented, coming up with techniques of team supervision and drug/alcohol testing to control the high risk offenders. And Intensive aftercare has not completely ended recidivism as prediction research has most times shown that the relationship between seriousness of the present crime done and recommitting the crime later on is very easy after being in the intensive aftercare program (Altschuler, David M., and Troy L. Armstrong. 1992).The major causes of recidivism include Lack of employment, person’s peers, family, community and state-level policies in their ‘normal’ life. Other recommendations include; Maximizing parental involvement, coming up plans to prevent youth from becoming involved with negative peers. , Strengthening efforts to more fully reintegrate youth into educational or labour-related pursuits, coming up with community treatment resources for high risk
