Interest groups and political parties serve to influence the Texas government by influencing and informing voters, which is often times a negative factor on society due to the one party dominance in Texas. An interest group is defined as an organization that tries to influence governments programs and policies based off their views and goals. In Texas, these groups influence politics by attempting to either get officials that represent or will respond to their issues elected, or by attempting to make previously elected officials respond to their issues. Often times, they have to influence public opinions to get the votes necessary for a particular candidate or even just accomplish what they want. A common way of using mass media, especially with well-funded interest groups, is paid advertisements that we see everywhere in Texas. Other methods that interest groups and political parties use to inform the often uninformed public is hosting public events, providing services, and others. Voters rely on interest groups and political parties to get valuable information about public policy and government decisions across to the public. Political parties in Texas serve as a way for many different types of organizations/interest groups to communicate the desires of the group or public to government officials (Texas Politics - Political Parties, 5.3). In Texas there are two primary branches of interest groups that work through political parties to influence the state government. These two branches are public and private interest groups, public being ones that generally tend to seek influence that will positively effect the general population, while private interest groups tend to seek influence that will positively effect its members or people with interests like theirs (Texas Politics - Interest Groups, 5.2). This can be beneficial to the public because there are many things that Texas citizens are unaware of, but can also be negative because often times in Texas with how Republican dominant we are, majority of the information that we get is very one sided and
