Policy maker and voters support intermediate sanctions for non-violent offenders because it saves the taxpayer and the government money. Policies and reduced criminal justice cost are implemented in some states because they are reserving prison beds for the violent offenders and using intermediate sanctions for non-violent offenders. These criminal penalties that do not include jail time with sanctions such as community service or house arrest just to name a few. Because these intermediate sanctions are only for non-violent and low-risk offenders, they allow the offender to go back in society because they are not a threat.

This will allow the voters and the policy makers to save a considerable amount of money so the state can do other things
