The internet is made up of millions of computers all over the world that are digitally connected to each other by cable, fibre or wireless links.



For the internet to work some of the computers need to acts as servers so that other computers around the world can request data from them. There are different types of servers on the internet, these include web servers, email servers and application servers.



Any computer connected to the internet must have an IP address that is unique. Internet Protocol.
This is the way in which data is transferred between other computers through the internet, internet protocol sends “packets” from the host server to the destination computer.

Domain names. the domain name is part of the address which tells you which domain the website is on. Examples of this would be a website ending in .gov will be on the government domain, .edu will be on the educational institutes domain. Domains also are used for countries like .co.uk, .ca,
.com, .th and so on.

WWW. (WORLD WIDE WEB)
The world wide web is different from the actual internet. Whereas the internet is made up of computers and cables, the world wide web is made up with pages full of text, pictures/photos, music and other media files.
Of course the WWW needs the internet to work as it will need to use other computers( servers) to request the data to be able to transfer it and show it on the web browser that you're using.

The Tesco website offers a range of things from advertising products to actually allowing you to buy things from there.

The purpose of the
Netflix website is just to advertise and to try and convince customers to sign up to it. It also informs you about how you can access Netflix.

• Businesses can use the internet for man different business activities. Depending on how big or what the business is could depend on how they use it. One example is YouTube. YouTube use the internet to deliver a service but (media) also use it to create revenue for its self by using advertisements to do so.

• Another example is Tesco, they use the internet to keep their databases which in turn helps the club card to run. Doing this helps Tesco to keep information on their customers and this helps them create a database to know what the customers wants, and will provide them with the products as they know there purchase history

Using the internet for business could potentially have many risks if there is no protection. Good protection will guard from things such as viruses.

PayPal is a company that have created a secure way to pay, send and receive money online just by using an email address or phone number. PayPal is the most popular form secure online transfers, they protect both the customers and business when it comes to fraud and scams. This is why companies such as eBay have integrated PayPal as it is ideal when dealing with online transactions.
PayPal offers ‘Buyer protection’ this will make customers feel more confident about this as a payment method.

Captcha stands for “completely automated public turing test” these protect companies from ‘bots’ and other computers trying to hack websites as they cannot pass the captcha tests. This will help keep hackers off of the websites as only humans can answer the question as such. Anti Virus and firewall will help anybody online. They are easy to come by and set…
