The two interwoven issues posing the greatest challenge to American democracy are a general public indifference to politics and the amount of money poured into the political system, especially campaigns. They are the locomotives of gridlock at the national level and catalysts of the existing schism between left and right, democrat and republican at the individual and collective stage. In the same manner that both issues have grown together in their significance and magnitude over the last three decades, both can be resolved together as well and ChangePolitics can play a major role. The American political system has evolved into one entirely alien to the preceding system and to the vision of the Founding Fathers. Money injected into campaigns has forced public officials to focus more on fundraising for their next election than the issues facing their constituents. Consider the case of the “Adelson Primary”, in which conservative presidential candidates such as Newt Gingrich have pandered to billionaire Sheldon Adelson, consenting to his personal demands of moving the American Embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and pardoning Jonathan Pollard (now released) in order to keep their campaigns alive. Apathy and indifference reign in the minds of many eligible voters, especially among young Americans, as they see that their demands are not translated into action. One of the may consequences of money in politics, fewer Americans vote or even care about what happens in politics and recusing themselves from the political process. The paradox is that many of these same eligible voters continue to suffer from the issues or injustices that require resolution but fail to act upon their experiences, perpetuating an unyielding and unresponsive
