Throughout the book, Into The Wild, the author, Jon Krakauer, uses complex sentence structures and syntax in order to show the complexity of the main character, Chris McCandless. Chris is a very intelligent individual, with a lot of excitement to explore the world and see what it has to offer. Using the structure of syntax, Krakauer often interrupts his sentences with appositive phrases to provide further description of his subjects. These appositives and descriptions are intended to provide a sense of credibility for the author to the point where he knows McCandless like he knows what he is thinking all the time.
