Today’s readings were relatively short but are quite important. In the first reading I read about the LEED or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design. A good quote that explains about the LEED is, “LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.” It is important to remember that LEED does not apply to only certain buildings but all including residential, commercial, communities as a whole, and it also works throughout the entire building process. This was something that I found to be important because the fact that is applies to all aspects of the building cycle is crucial. Meaning that it’s not only applied to just the building process but the lifetime of the building. Another important fact about LEED is that it is being constantly updated to stay up to date with technology and new techniques. It is globally recognized symbol and is not what people are striving for. It has a rating system for certification because there are different levels of LEED. It also has multiple sectors each focusing on a separate buildings like Schools or Homes and other sectors focus on different stages of building such as construction or maintenance. The second reading was an intro to the LEED guide. It mains focus was to explain what LEED is and how big the impact of building has by giving examples.
