The Story of Irene Fogel surviving the Holocaust Irene was born November 21 , 1930 in Botargy Czechoslovakia to two loving parents Mayer and Leah Fogle . In total Irene had five siblings named Gershon ,Moshe ,Edit , Reuven and Serena her father owned a lumberyard ,her mother stayed home to raise the children . In 1939 the Hungarian officials persecuted the jews “ banned all jews from attending schools and confiscated businesses , required thousand of jewish men to be inducted into Hungarian forced labor brigades under the military command “( United States ) . Irene and her husband have three children and four adorable grandchildren , she is also volunteers at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum . On the other hand her sister Serena lives in New Jersey with her beautiful family including her three children and grandchildren they have both managed to keep in touch , hang in there . Serena could not attend the last trip to Auschwitz because of her elderly husband is too sick to travel with her or even be left alone . About six survivors from the Holocaust return every year to the concentration camps in Auschwitz .Irene took her third and last trip to the camp in January 27,2015 she said “I won’t be going back to Auschwitz again after this visit. So it’s my last chance to make sure this tragedy is not forgotten. I found out only about a week before I was due to leave that I will be one of two survivors who will be part of the US presidential delegation, headed by the secretary of the treasury, Jack Lew, and I feel very honoured, but it has much to do with the fact that many others who could go are ill and could not travel “(United States 1
