On May 15, 2017 I interviewed Irene Sandoval about what it means to be American to her. It was rough at first, I didn’t really get much of the response I was expecting. Then once she got comfortable the responses got longer, they had much more detail, and her attitude got bolder. Irene moved to America as a child in the late sixties, she found it hard to fit in when approximately everyone in the city she lived in was white. Once she was a teen in the seventies she started to feel welcomed, she thought her hippie self was living the true American dream.
