As we watched the Iron Jawed Angels in class, I was captivated by one unhighlighted character. She was essential to the beginning of Alice Paul’s movement, yet she did not receive enough recognition. She was almost like a sidekick in an action movie, but instead of being the main character’s sidekick, she was made out to be the sidekick’s sidekick. She does not have books in her honor, nor a chapter in someone else’s book. After research of the film, the name Ruza Wenclawska was found. Ruza was born in Poland and brought to United States as infant. She grew in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but later became apart of the working class in New York. She was a married trade union organizer in New York City for the National Consumers' League and the National Women's Trade Union League. Later, she joined the National Woman’s Party as a key speaker at rallies and meetings. Rose Winslow’s earlier job role was crucial when it came to helping Alice Paul and the first wave of Women’s Right Movement with the National Woman's Party. In the movie the Iron Jawed Angels, we see Alice Paul and Lucy Burns meet Rose Winslow at a rally. After convincing the other working class women to hear Alice and Lucy out, Rose became a key factor in the movement. This drastically helped with the number of people who followed the movement. Wilson’s influence on the women gave Alice’s movement the jump start and backing needed. Winslow was crucial to gaining the interest of the middle class and also women of other social standings. Winslow marched with the party in D.C, took part in rallies, travelled around the nation and spoke (with Inez which caused both of them to get sick), and protested outside the White House even during the
