IRON JAWED ANGELS The movie ’Iron Jawed Angels’ is about American women’s suffrage movement. The main characters of the movie are Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, President Woodrow Wilson, Senator and his wife. The women’s suffrage leaders Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, and other women fight for future generations right to vote. Firstly, Alice Paul and Lucy Burns attend to National American Woman’s Suffrage Association and they organised the 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession on the day of president Woodrow Wilson’s inauguration. During the procession, men protested women and they use force to women. Police did not protect women. According to Paul and her friends, without distinction of gender; women as men should have the right to vote. The first concept is sexism. Sexism or discrimination is based on gender, especially against women.In the movie , when Lucy go to the police and she want to ensure their safety , policeman said that why do not you stay at home? I cannot ensure your safety.This scene is linked with the concept of sexism. Although request security is their right , police do not protect them.In generally ; according to men , women stay at home , do housework and obey their husbands.Sexism is that one sex is superior to another sex. This scene shows that women are not equal to men. They are inferior to women. Secondly, the concept of patriarchy is that men are superior to women. This concept includes male violence against women. In the movie, Senator does not want his wife to join National Women's Party . When she go to the their court and donate money them, he was against.Even , he didn't seem their children to her.
