Irony assists in the development of the excerpt from “The Life of Pi” by Yann Martel. Irony is the expression of ones meaning by using language that would normally signifies the opposite of something that is to take place. Irony is the one main writing strategy that is used throughout the whole excerpt. The first main example of irony in this excerpt would be when the narrator tries to rescue Richard Parker he accomplishes this by yelling out his name over and over till he finds him. The reason that this line from the excerpt is ironic is because Richard Parker is actually a three year old adult Bengal tiger normally people wouldn’t refer to an animal with its last and first name especially in a novel.
