A wampum belt is a belt that is made out of colorful beads and shells, made by the women in the Iroquois confederacy. The first wampum was made by a man named Hiawatha, he made it by attaching colorful beads, and shells on a string, to remember his three late daughters. The wampum is used to remember sections of the Great Law of Peace, since it is too long to remember. From a young age a child is chosen to keep the wampum safe and learn how to read it. The child should be able to feel the wampum beads and tell the meaning of the wampum fluently with emotion, and great strength. The Two Row Wampum belt represents the Europeans and the Iroquois.
