Is Lying Acceptable? The truth does not cost anything but a lie can cost a person everything. Lie or being dishonest is not the best way to get rid of trouble which is proven by many. Lying is unjustified in any form. Kant, an 18th century philosopher and Blanton, argue over the statement, lying is erroneous and leaves you with guilt. So be honest and deal with the consequences of you actions, instead of lying which contains more flaws than benefits. Lying is not acceptable because, sometimes it is just better to tell the truth instead of hurting someone’s feelings when they find out later on. Lying destroys human decency. Stated by Kant “It harms a liar himself, by destroying his human dignity and making him more worthless even than a small thing. (Kant,1999) This shows Kant believes that by not telling the truth a person becomes worthless and destroying their inner self by keeping the truth. Likewise, this is important because from Kant’s point of view, lying is unjustified and should not be told. Overall, the quote stated by Immanuel Kant argues that a liar starts to feel worthless over the guilt of lying. Along with Kant, Blanton …show more content…
For example, “Because it keeps you locked in the jail of your own mind, you have to remember what you said to each person. Delivering the truth is easier, takes less time, and is less stressful.”(Blanton,2010) This shows, that lying is wrong and it keeps a person locked away in their own head making them feel guilty all the time, when easier done telling the truth. Furthermore, Blanton states not to lie when telling the truth can be easier. Generally speaking, lying is not appropriate and should not be told.
