Throughout greek mythology there are many gods and goddesses that can be viewed as a hero by their many adventures and quests they complete. One god tends to stand out from the rest and that god is Perseus. What makes Perseus seem like hero is he was the only god who was able to successfully slay medusa (the gorgon) who turned everyone to stone when they looked at her. The person who could kill medusa and keep her head had the most powerful weapon in the world because even if she is dead her head will still turn people to stone. Overall what makes Perseus such a major hero in greek mythology is his clever decapitation of medusa. He also rescued Andromeda from the sea monster, and like most mythological heroes, Perseus is the son of a god and mortal.
Although slaying Medusa was a difficult task what helped Perseus kill medusa and go down in fame for being the only one so successfully kill her was he had help from two other gods Athena and Hermes. Ultimately the weapon that proved to be the most helpful was the shield Athena gave to him. Athena had said to Perseus when she gave him her bronze shield“‘Look into this when you attack the

Perseus used the head to save Andromeda from the sea monster.When Perseus arrived Andromeda was chained to a rocky ledge by the sea to wait for the sea monster to come. Perseus saw her in an instant and loved her so he waited by the ledge where she was chained up and waited “until the great snake came for it's prey; then he cuts its head off just as he had the Gorgon’s” (Hamilton 206). Perseus had saved Andromeda and then took her back to her parents and asked for her hand in marriage which both of her parents agreed
