According to the Merriam-Wester Dictionary, social media is the form of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos). Social media is the way most people express themselves and communicate with others however, some people may think social media is a distraction for people to pay less attention to the real world. In today’s generation, 76% of teens use social media. Most teens are on social media to either talk to friends or see what their friends have been up to. All teens with social media are on social media when they’re bored, they’d have nothing but sit in front of a screen. When it comes to friendships, having social media is plays a big part. Technology brings friendships closer together because teens learn how to stay connected with their associates and discover that their friends …show more content…
For example in the article Is Technology Killing Our Friendships? by Lauren Tarshis it states “These platforms help people stay connected like never before. You can keep up with your friend who moved to Texas or send a good-luck text to your brother before his soccer game.” This means that connecting with friends can strengthen relationships. When teens connect with friends, its lets their friends know that they are interested in what it happening in hat person’s life. In the text Is Technology Killing Our Friendships? by Lauren Tarshis it says that most communication takes place online although, teens spend about 44 hours on their phones a week, which means teens surf the web and communicate with friends. This reveals that not all 44 hours of a face in front of a screen is people on social media. There can 100 different things going on inside a tiny box. Connecting with friends is the way to go when people have a strong
