In life we aim to be great to always be caring and loving towards others and to have a legacy everyone will remember, but it's not easy to be all good. Not everyone is truly great everyone has flaws. To be great we must have Integrity and a special set of morals that we won't ever turn against, they always do the right thing. We must think of others before ourselves and do everything we possibly can to be good. Gatsby has fabricated an entire life built up with lies, the people around him are no good either. The only person who truly cares about Gatsby is Nick the narrator who sees past all of Gatsby's mistakes to see a man of great optimism and hope. In the novel “The Great Gatsby” F.Scott Fitzgerald showcases humans struggles with chasing a dream that's in the past.

In ways Gatsby was great, he continues to fail in getting Daisy back and time after time he tries his best and never, ever quits because if he were to ever quit, part of his dream would die. He is incredibly optimistic in his battle to save daisy from Tom. Gatsby is well aware of Tom's racist, sexist, and unfaithful traits and sees himself taking her away from that life and loving her. While his intentions are to himself pure there are reasons he has been in love with her these past five years that he cannot see, he loves Daisys money more than he loves her. His optimism and his perseverance that makes him great. However his intentions on trying to get daisy back are not so pure. Gatsby is in denial because he believes he can recreate the past and the pasts feelings between him and Daisy. Someone who is great is honest, trustworthy and doesn't break the law to better themselves. Gatsby joined the mob to acquire a fortune to impress Daisy, Gatsby had “connections” with influential mob figures during the 1920’s such as Meyer Wolfsheim. They were bootlegging Alcohol since the 20’s was a time of prohibition so alcohol was illegal. He was a criminal and gained all of his money illegally. When Tom was doing some digging to find out who gatsby truly was he came across gatsby's “drugstores” and found out about his criminal connections. “He and Wolfshiem bought up a lot of side-street drug stores here in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter”, he knew about his connections and how he gained his money. Gatsby tried to make his money through small jobs but nothing worked out so he resorted to bootlegging. Tom believes he is a better person because he inherited his money legally, in that way he is, but not in his ideologies. Gatsby is also a deceiver, he has fabricated almost every aspect of his life. He enhanced the truth about himself in order to impress others and Daisy. He lied in order to be respected and to be thought of more highly with his peers. He knew he could never win daisy over with his illegal bootlegging fortune so he told people he got the money from buying drugstores, which was a lie. He
