At the start of the mathematics’ unit, I become drawn into classroom participation for the first time since the beginning of my degree course despite my initial avoidance of public speaking during lectures. Haylock and Cockburn (2008) identify the silence as a result of self-doubt. However, I have moved from not participating in lectures to confidently putting my hand up to answer the tutor’s questions. Inoue and Buczynski (2011) argue that this emancipatory change has been influenced by my confidence in mathematical knowledge. However, Povey (1997) maintains that my motivation is linked to my positive attitude towards learning mathematics. Further, Hodgen and Askew (2007) support the views that learners’ confidence can be related to their perception of mathematics.
While completing the self-evaluation, exercises provided by my tutor I was able to confidently work out various

Kenney, Shoffner and Norris (2013) propose that using resources designed to specifically support teachers’ subject knowledge development give opportunities to acquire appropriate pedagogical understanding necessary to gain skills needed to become an effective teacher. For these reasons, I will be using the resources of the following websites: NCETM, Professional skills tests - Numeracy skills test, National curriculum in England: mathematics programmes of study and Mathematics Explained for Primary Teachers online workbook.
Furthermore, Kenney, Shoffner and Norris (2013) recommend learners to give themselves opportunities to question their understanding by exploring mathematical concepts. Because finding solutions and explanations these questions can reinforce pedagogical knowledge (Hein,1999). Consequently, develop conceptual knowledge, processes, and strategies necessary to solve mathematical problems (Chick, H. L. et al.,
