To start with Ishmael Beah has been a patient of mine for several weeks. During this time I have found him to be an exceptionally depressed child with a harsh personality and extremely closed person. My first impression of Ishmael was as a difficult child who is lost and not able to recognise people properly. I have seen several scars on his body especially one on his foot, it was a scar of the bullet.
Being a child soldier has changed him significantly from an innocent child to a violent killer. He and his friends used to take heavy drugs like cocaine or heroin which could have resulted in death. Consequences of drug abuse are crucial and Ismael does not acknowledge how fortunate he is to be alive. Furthermore, soldiers used to say to him that he innocent whenever he killed someone with no guilt in his mind. He went from a children who was afraid of gunshots to a teenager who was the gunshots. Violence and guns is what he liked, he enjoyed to have power and felt suspicious to others.

Consistently, we undertake about the topic of war and his unusual experience. He has been closed to me for a while until this happened. I gifted Ishmael a rap cassettes and a walkman which Ishmael had enjoyed. Fortunately, eventually Ishmael had a breakthrough in his therapy. Though his war experiences have altered him, he is now learning to trust myself and reach out to others for help as well. Ishmael is now getting able to recognize people. Ishmael is a special child who needs support and a new family that can take care about after rehabilitation. Even though it’s been a while since we started the process of rehabilitation his progress is extremely slow. In the end I hope there is a chance for Ishmael to fully
