This is probably one of the few books that have had much of an inspirational/ emotional impact on me in a long time. Just to hear that Ishmael Beah had to endure such horrors and inexplicable things at such a young age really had a big impact on me. I haven’t done much research or been informed on the matters that took place but I have a general understanding of what was going on over there. No 13 year old or any child for that matter should have to stand up for their country and bear arms in order to survive and live another day. I can see grown men that choose to enlist joining the army and going to war but I have no way to relate to what he was going though from a child’s perspective.
