Isolation In Maya Angelou's Alone

Maya Angelou is an African American female poet that was astounding at making her work seem come alive to her readers. She had a very action-packed life and through her life she went through a lot of things that most people do not go through. With experiences that she has learned and saw what other people go through, she wrote many poems to express her feelings. Her poems are related to people in a modern day. That is why many people these days still love reading her poems.
In the poem "Alone," Angelou addresses one of the biggest issues of the contemporary world, isolation. With all of our different forms of social media people use on a daily basis such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc., you'd think that we'd be more connected than ever. As it turns out, though, technology doesn't counteract for the fact that most people feel disconnected from their communities and neighborhoods, or even the people they love the most. "Alone" begins off with our speaker doing some genuine soul-looking. Maya says this mainly through the repeating line "But nobody Can make it out here alone". She uses stanza 3 to talk about the rich (typically have the most material possessions), and how even their affluence will not save them, they need to have companions just like the rest of us. In stanza 5, she says that a storm is coming, that "The wind is gonna blow" and that "The race of man is suffering". Here, I believe she is saying that as a society, we are gradually growing more independent (Look up!), which she perceives as a bad thing.
