Isolation In Metamorphosis

In the novel “Metamorphosis,” Franz Kafka clearly explained his perspective about Gregor's decision that connects to a belief called Existentialism. After Gregor had transformed into a gargantuan pest in his family, he began to create his own choices based on his job and his family. One of his choices that Gregor demonstrated throughout the novel is alienation. Gregor's isolation caused him to get an unstable relationship with his family and he left without a choice, but he has to avoid his family by locked himself in his room. In the distressing universe of the novella, bliss is outlandish in light of the needs of a person and society is hopeless yet just as convincing. After Gregor transformed into a pest, he wished that he wants to renounce his job and gained independence so that he can do the things that he's enjoying. However, something stopped Gregor from doing those things. Gregor is withdrawn from his job, his society, his family, and even his body, which it changed him to become a bug. In fact, even his solicitude for his family seems to abandon him, as he barely notices it when he loses this solicitude at the end. One of the quotes from the novel that talks about alienation is when he’s complaining about his job. The quote stated “fleeting human contact that is ever-changing, never lasting, and never expected to the genuine.” (Kafka Pg.14). As a traveling salesman, he never established his relationships to anyone, including his family because he’s a busy guy. After the metamorphosis of Gregor himself, he felt completely alienated after on the day that he can’t support his family anymore. Isolation had led to disturbing his family's relationship. From the day that Gregor turns into a bug, thing turns out worse for Gregor. His family's relationship had gradually become avoidable. Gregor can't communicate with his family due to his transformation. Since Gregor can no longer support his family, the family can no longer depend on Gregor and it change the family’s attitude towards Gregor. A cold-hearted father, an asthmatic mother, and a flighty teenage sister need to find a job to support on their own from that time. Gregor has an issue with his father. His father is brutal, ruthless, and heartless. One of the quotes that demonstrates the way his father is treating him as a bug. The narrator stated, “then the father came from behind and gave him a truly liberating and hefty push, and he flew, heavily bleeding, far into his room.” (Pg. 30). Ever since he became a bug in his family, he felt a burden because of the way that his family is treating him as a monster.
