J. David Lundy remarks that team work is God’s designed way in doing ministry. It may not always be as neat and tidy as doing it yourself, but over the long haul it is the group effort that will be the most enriching that is, the most effective (Ephesians 4:16).178 Robert D. Dale acknowledges that team work is the merging of diverse persons centered on support, respect, interdependency, and esprit de corps (a feeling of pride, fellowship and loyalty with a particular group) are crucial for teamwork as two church members depend on each other.179 Team ministry is just simply working together through spiritually mature leaders to direct the church to accomplish its mission, extending the kingdom of God in every heart around the world (Matthew 28:18-20). They teach us that there is great power in numbers for a group can achieve much more than one person.

Churches and some Christian leaders are reluctant to embrace the idea of teamwork because they view it as a business model. However, what they neglect to recognize is that instances of teamwork are exemplified in both the Old and New Testaments. Moses at the advice of his father- in-law developed teams from able men and made them rulers over thousands, hundreds, fifties and ten (Exodus 18:24-25). The prophets in the Old Testament had schools for training (1Kings 19:19-20; 2 Kings 2; 2 Kings 4:38-44; 1 Samuel 19:18-25). Jesus selected and developed a team of twelve disciples (Mark 3:14).
