Jack the Ripper is one of the world’s most famous serial killers, but almost every piece of information involving the Ripper’s case is considered questionable. Larry S. Barbee stated that much of the original evidence gathered at the time has been lost, and many "facts" are actually opinions by the various writers who have written about the case during the past century. Therefore many aspects of the case are contested, and what follows is a summation of the case in general. Although the murders to place over a century ago, the work of Jack the Ripper still fascinates the worlds and, also, is the main topic of several researchers’ agreements. With little to no evidence to prove much about the work of Jack the Ripper, the victims, and the reason why the crimes were committed, the Ripper is still considered one of the most famous serial killer mysteries. The Whitechapel murders took place in the late 19th century. Jack the Ripper is credited to killing at least five different women between August 31, 1888 and November 9, 1888. These five women are often referred to as the “Canonical Five”. Many people have been accused of committing the murders and some people have even confessed to being the Ripper. The actual killer is still unknown. Even though the killer was not identified, there have been over 100 people accused to be the Ripper. There is no evidence to support that the people who were accused actually committed the crime or to prove that the people who confessed to be the Ripper were telling the truth. A letter sent to a news agency claiming to be the killer was sign Jack the Ripper, and that how the killer was named. The killings came to a complete halt, no one was prosecuted for the crimes, and there is almost no evidence found. Jack the Ripper is a mystery to world, but is still considered to be one of the most famous unknown serial killers ever.
