Harley Newsome 6th Period Jackie Robinson was not just any ordinary baseball player, he was the first African American to play in Major League Baseball. Brooklyn Dodger, caption of the Pee Wee Reese, says " I was on a ship in the South Pacific coming back from navy service in Guam. " Dodger hadn't seen his daughter since he left when she was only 11 days old.. He was thinking about how excited he was to see his family when suddenly he heard something on the radio " Hey, Pee Wee, the Dodgers just signed a colored ball player. This is when a student is doing very well in something that involves sports, academics, among other things. Jackie was also elected Lancer, this means he was something like security. Later on he was arrested by police because he vocally disputed to a white man because his friend had a controversy. He was suspended for exactly two years. After being at Muir Technical High School for 2 years he finally transferred to Pasadena Junior College. He was a recognizable student on campus almost from the beginning because he was the youngest brother of Mack Robinson, who had joined the United States Olympic team in 1936 out of Pasadena Junior College. For two years Jackie Robinson was an outstanding football, baseball, basketball, and track star at Pasadena. " I played all four sports, football, basketball, baseball, and track, the same as Jackie, and I recently was named to the Pasadena Hall of Fame, and that was a great honor. I did a lot of blocking for Jackie, and we were the only two players from the Pasadena to make the Junior college All-American teams " says Ray Barlett, a retired police detective, he lives in nearby Altadena, California. After he graduated from Pasadena Junior College he continued his athletic career at UCLA with amazing performers in all four sports.
