I. Introduction This film is about an African American baseball player. That player was Jackie Robinson. At the time he was playing, 1946 to 1947, segregation and Jim Crow laws were enforced. Branch Rickey was the manager for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He wanted to have an African American on a white major league baseball team. Both Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey become hated by the public. Almost every white person disliked colored people. Robinson goes through the many stages of becoming a major league baseball player and then some. He faces much criticism from the white community. He was the main character in this movie. One of the impressions I got from Robinson was he had a temper. Anything you said about him could make him mad. He wanted to be the one who was right. I think the segregation laws made his temper even worse. Branch Rickey knew as he was recruiting him that he had a high temper. The first game he attended as a Brooklyn Dodger was very hard for him. There was one game he broke down. That was the game against the Phillies. The manager was constantly yelling harsh words at him and telling him he shouldn’t be there. After Robinson was done batting, you could see his temper rising. He went below the dugout and smashed his bat. He couldn’t show it was getting to him because he needed to be strong. That is another characteristic Robinson had. He was very strong going through his whole situation. He knew the good that would come out of it and wanted to stick to it. He didn’t let the public get to him and just blocked them out. Another thing about Jackie Robinson is that he was a hero to the colored community. He showed that they are just as good as white people are or even better. He was a big part to ending segregation and started to change the minds little by little starting with the Dodgers team. Especially today, it occurs to Muslims or Latinos. Although it isn’t going as far as to separating different facilities for these people, it is still fairly serious. I feel it has become a larger problem mainly because of our president. I believe this because of how he talks about them and what he is doing with them. Although many people say he is being racist towards them, I think everyone is. I think this because our country has had many bad things happen with the Muslim group with terrorism and when most people see them, they think about terrorism. Racism today doesn’t particularly pertain to African Americans, but other races too. That is one way I am reminded form this
