Jackson Symphony Orchestra Observation

The only time I have ever listened to classical music is when the library was loud and I needed to drown out the sound of people when I was doing my homework. I used classical music because it didn’t have words so I was as distracted as the normal music I listen to. I became thrilled when I realized the music foundations class would be attending the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. During my visit, I felt like I was able to enjoy myself more because I could appreciate it better than before taking the class. During my visit I was able to observe the audience, the atmosphere, and other musical terms. The setting of the concert was very different than my previous concert visit for the class. The venue was at the Potter Center at Jackson College, which was much larger than anything Spring Arbor University has to seat people. There were three different orchestra groups that came together to play at the performance. When looking at the program it had every performer listed. When observing the list people was from all over. Some of them from at least two hours away traveled to perform together at the symphony. Every single person on the stage was dressed in black. Although, I didn’t know what a lot of the pieces are I do remember them speaking about them playing Beethoven’s 5th. Beethoven falls under the classical music genre. This genre followed the baroque period. The period lasted a little under a hundred years ranging from around 1750 to 1820. The impact of the classical music was so profound that it is still being shared for enjoyment today. Over all my impressions of the symphony were very positive. I enjoyed dressing up and listening to the music. I found myself fascinated by the musician’s ability to play so flawlessly. I would love to attend a symphony another time in my
