Jacksonian Democracy Essay For many years, people have, and will still, debate on whether or not Andrew Jackson went down in history as a hero or a villain. A good democracy has equal rights and a strong, and educated, leader. We, as people, need to be able to have a say, as well as the government. Andrew Jackson was both a hero and a villain. He was a hero because he let the people have lots of say and he thought for himself, he was a villain because he betrayed the people and didn’t let his Cabinet Members have much input. Personally, Andrew Jackson is a hero. This is true, mostly true, because he showed that he was an educated and powerful leader, while also giving power to the people. One way Jackson gave power to his people, is when he had his inauguration, he let the people see what he wanted to and gave them the privilege that they would have never had. He gave the common people their rights for voting and showed them what power they have. Another way Jackson gave power to the people is during the Bank War. Andrew Jackson realized that only the wealthy people benefit from the National Bank and that the common people don’t get much. So, Jackson starts by trying to help his people by ridding of a system that isn’t willing to help them. Jackson’s inauguration and the Bank War proves that he gives power to the people because he gave the common people the rights that only wealthy people had. Also, he shows that he cares about his people that he is willing to crash a huge program. By being a powerful, educated leader and giving power to his people, Jackson was able to promote democracy well. It’s important to know if Andrew Jackson was a hero, or a villain, because of events that can happen. For example, “Jackson’s inauguration” shows that someone could give you an opportunity that you never would have expected to
