James and Katerina are based on Romeo and Juliet. This movie takes place during the Cold War. James Johnson is a member of the CIA and Katerina Rostova works for the KGB. This story is based on deception and Katerina, sneaking out of her country in order to meet James, the love of her life. At the same time, Katerina is avoiding a marriage, to Sunder.
After a fight that kills two KGB and one CIA agent, the UN decrees that any more fighting between the two spy organizations would result in grave consequences. The UN also appoints Syed Gandhi, the Indian UN representative, to be the peacekeeper. Syed asks Rostov if Katerina would be willing to marry his son, Sunder. Rostov does not want to marry Katerina as she is 17, and the legal age to be married in Russia is 18. Despite Katerina not wanting to get married, Rostov invites Sunder to the annual KGB gala. Before the party starts, Rostov says that spies in the US noticed that William Johnson was going to the party, and the KGB director wants

When James, Ushij, and Axel arrive at the party, James refuses to go, saying that he had a bad dream. Ushij goes on a rant about how dreams are nothing but fiction. When James sees Katerina, his love for Olga vanishes. James and Katerina share a dance and a kiss. The two are determined to find who the other was, and are disappointed to find out they work for enemy countries. However, they decide to sacrifice politics for love and secretly continue to see each other. Katerina sneaks herself and James into the neighboring woods. James and Katerina both exclaim that they love each other. James leaves and goes back to America. When he arrives, he asks Father Jackson if he could marry them. Father Jackson is dubious about James’ sudden change but agrees to do it, hoping that it would end the cold
