James Baldwin, in The Fire Next Time, publishes his Uncle James’ letter that was written for a young James Baldwin. The objective of the letter was to inform the Uncles’ Nephew of what America was like during the Uncle’s time growing up along with where African-Americans fit within the world. The writer encourages the reader to keep searching for change to make America a better place to live as well as to not give up hope.
