Birthday: I was born on October 14, 1633.I am the second surviving son of Charles I and Henrietta Maria of France, and I was named after my grandfather, James I who was the first of the Stuart kings of England.
Place of birth: I was born at St. James palace in London England.
Education: I was educated by many tutors. I didn’t attend a school or a college, but I was very well educated. I was tutored by my brother, the future King Charles II, and also by the two sons of Duke of Buckingham- George and Francis Villiers. My education had embedded me with two things: a devotion to the memory of my father and an adherence to absolute Catholicism.
Profession/ Professional experience: I was appointed Lord High Admiral at the age of three in the year 1636.I was also a Spanish soldier in some wars and I also commanded the Royal Navy during the Second (1665–1667) and Third Anglo-Dutch Wars (1672–1674). Also in 1683, I became the governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, and founded the Royal African Company, which was arguably one of the largest and most profitable slave trading companies in history. I created and was given the title of Duke of Albany in 1660 and Duke of York in 1644. I was King of England from 1685 to 1688, King of Scotland from 1685 to 1688, and also I was King of Ireland from 1685 to 1688.
Awards received / Accreditations: I received the award for the Knight of the Garter in 1660, which was the most prestigious honor in England at this time. In 1642, at the age of 9, I was invested into the Order of the Garter and two years later in 1644 was named Duke of York. I was given the title of Lord High Admiral from 1685-1688.
Significant life events: I was eight years old when the English Civil Wars broke out in 1642, putting the king and his supporters against supporters of Parliament, and in July 1646 the Parliamentarian army confined me to Saint James's Palace. After I became Duke of York in 1644 I escaped and headed to the Netherlands. On January 30, 1649 my dad was found guilty of treason and was executed.
