James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier wrote an astounding novel called My Brother Sam is Dead. The novel is depressing, yet the novel manages to illustrate the reality of the lives of the commoners during the American Revolution. The four main characters are Tim, Sam, Life, and Susannah Meeker. Tim Meeker, the narrator and the younger brother of Sam, is a sensitive thirteen- year- old who worships his older brother Sam and also adores and respects his father. Tim comes of age in confronting his contradictory loyalties to Sam and his Father. Sam, a sixteen- year- old, is inflamed with the passionate idealism-and blindness of youth. He leaves Yale to join the Rebel forces, incurring his father’s wrath and provoking an everlasting dissension
