Jamestown Vs Plymouth Jamestown was the first town established 1606 in Virginia. The first settlers 104 men who all came for land and glory. The next settlers were established thirteen years later came on the Mayflower in Massachusetts and was named Plymouth and were 102 settlers, these settlers came for religious freedom and to be free of religious persecution.

The two towns were established in different climates. Jamestown was placed in a warm climate and fertile soil allowed large plantations to prosper it also had good defense against trespassers. Plymouth cold climate and thin, rocky soil limited farm size because of this they people turned to lumbering, shipbuilding, fishing and trade.
