(Topic Sentence) Standing up to bullying is an important step towards making it stop happening. Jamie Nabozny knows something about this. (Background info) Nabozny was bullied throughout junior high and high school just because he was gay. (Attention grabbing strategy) Some bullies thought that it would be ok to call him inappropriate names as well as physically harm him. Jamie sought teachers but they weren’t giving help either, and eventually, after much inner-turmoil, Jamie informed the authorities what was occurring at school. Eventually, the case went to court and a debate took place over the span of a lone day. Jamie won the debate, beating the school district. A settlement was later reached, one close to a million dollars. (Thesis statement) Cases such as the documentary Bullied where the victim fights back, might discourage other bullies to pick on others in the first place.

Instead of bringing new opportunities and a fresh start, school brought constant torment by bullies. Year by year, the bullying built up and the dam thrice exploded for Jamie, a suicide attempt and running away from home twice. Ultimately, yet another obstacle faced him as he fought for justice, a court case which he won.
