William Shakespeare is most known today for his literary works. The characters make his intriguing plays most memorable. The readers have an opportunity to compare themselves with the interesting characters. Janine Abudabour, a girl in English Honors, felt truly connected to Polonius while reading Hamlet. For instance, she connected with Polonius' protectiveness towards his children. Janine is protective like Polonius from Hamlet.
Janine was always told to look out for her younger siblings. Janine's mother was the one to push this philosophy on her. It proved to be useful when her mother left the country to visit her ailing father for several weeks. Her father was often at work and would not come home until late at night. That meant Janine was in charge most of the time. Even though her mom was not there to enforce the rules, Janine was there to uphold them. She would ensure that her brother’s homework was neatly done. There was no reason for his grades to decrease, just so he could play on his Xbox longer. He makes it clear he does not want Ophelia to have any contact with him at all. Polonius says, “I would not, in plain terms, from this time forth, /Have you so slander any moment leisure, /As to give words or talk with the Lord Hamlet” (I.ii). He emphasizes that he does not want any communication between the two of them whatsoever. “I am sorry that with better heed and judgment /I had not quoted him.
