Liberty. Pride. Jealousy. Betrayal. Murder. Amid all this, Marc Antony must get over the death of whom he admires and respects the most: Julius Caesar. As a young man still trying to find his place in society, Marc Antony’s greatest role model was Julius Caesar. When that role model is taken away, Marc Antony is forced to adjust himself from just an empty-minded follower to an independent person who can take care of himself. Throughout the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Marc Antony develops from a spirited young man into an almost power-hungry, ambitious man.
In the play’s opening during the celebrations of Lupercal, we learn the personality and characteristic of young Marc Antony and how the different characters, such as Brutus, perceive him as. “I do lack some part/ Of that quick spirit that is in Antony.” (I. ii. 34-35) Using this quote, Brutus is indirectly characterizing Marc Antony as energetic and animated, almost like a boy. In the exposition of this literature, we also get a glimpse of Marc Antony’s attitude towards Julius Caesar. “When Caesar says ‘Do this’, it is performed.” (I. ii. 13) For something as simple as touching Calpurnia with his goatskin, Marc Antony carries out Caesar’s every request like an important

For someone who had not a care in the world, Marc Antony’s whole world comes crashing down with the murder of Caesar. Uncertainty and confusion lied in Marc Antony’s path and because he had never faced it before, he had no idea what to do about it. “Fled to his house amazed.” (III, i, 106) As Trebonius described it, Marc Antony became bewildered and scared for his future.
