Jean Michel Basquiat (SAMO- Same Old Sh*t) was a neo-expressionist, primitivism artist in the 1980s. Basquiat grew to fame as a part of SAMO, a graffiti duo that wrote epigrams in lower east side of Manhattan during the late 1970s. Jean Michel Basquiat was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 22, 1960 to a Haitian father who was an accountant and a Puerto Rican Mother. In his early childhood, Basquiat displayed a talent for art learning to draw and paint with his mother’s encouragement. Together they attended New York Musem Exhibitions, and by the early age of 6, Jean Michel found himself already enrolled as a Junior member of the Brooklyn Museum.
