Jean Nicollet was a French explorer in North America in 1600’s. He was born in Cherbourg-Octeville, France, around 1590’s, the son of Thomas Nicollet. Nicollet’s dad was a messenger between the King of Paris and Cherbourg. Jean Nicollet made a connection with Samuel de Champlain in their teen years due to Champlain’s attention from the king. Champlain became very fond with Nicollet, so he decided to put Nicollet in his plan to educate other French explorers and traders to live with the Natives. Champlain became very busy governing and creating French settlements for North America. Jean Nicollet decided to explore along the waterways in St. Lawrence River for trading going further west.
