Throughout centuries art has existed and was continued to be made daily, but why? Each art piece has a reason and a meaning that is represented through the art piece. Such as in Virgin of Jeanne d'Evreux from the church of Saint- Denis, France, 1339. It is made with silver gilt and enamel and it is gothic French. Also Virgin and Child between Saints Theodore and George, sixth to seventh century, Encaustic wood, Monastery of Saint Catherine, Mount Sinai, Egypt, and is a Byzantine work of art. These two pieces contain the Virgin Mary, but in its own unique way and each piece is used in a separate way.
The Virgin Mary is represented in different ways in the Virgin of Jeanne d'Evreux from the church of Saint- Denis and the Virgin and Child between Saints Theodore and George. The Virgin Mary in Virgin of Jeanne d'Evreux from the church of Saint- Denis is represented by having no emotion, correct proportion, no tension, swaying motion, and it contains intimate human characterizations. Mary is made out of gold and is holding a scepter which shows that she is royalty and is the queen of Heaven. The Virgin and Child between Saints Theodore and George is represented by not looking at Christ by being distracted and disconnected. Such as the Virgin and Child between Saints Theodore and George is shown as being distracted from Christ while the Virgin of Jeanne is shown as being connected and focused on Christ. The Virgin of Jeanne is alone, but the Virgin and Child is shown being surrounded by people to show the followers of Christ and his and the Virgins royalty.
