Jedediah Smith was born in June 24th, 1799 in Bainbridge, New York. He died May 27th, 1831 in Cimarron River, United States. Smith explored a large area of the far west in his short life. When Smith joined the pioneering Fur trader’s, he went on a trip with William Ashley to the Missouri River. Earlier fur traders who depended on Native Americans instead sent out Smith to do the job, he became to me known as one of the best explorers.
A year after his first trip to the Missouri, Smith sent a small Bound of Mountain Men to explore the Black Hills region of Ashley’s behest. Despite being attacked by a Grizzly Bear, Smith continued west to the site of modern day Dubois, Wyoming, where Smith and his men camped for winter. Smith was considered
