In Jefferson Davis’s inaugural address given in February 1861. This speech was presented in Montgomery, Alabama. He believed that the Southern states were Justified in leaving the Union. Davis was a man who once was a senator for the people of the South was now the president of the Confederate States of America, Davis wanted slavery to be recognized as Constitutional. One of the quotes from his speech he stated: “it is the right of the people to alter or abolish governments whenever they become destructive of the ends for which they were established…” The reason why Davis said this in his speech was that he knows it was his right to separate from his Nation if he feels the government are not doing their job correctly.
