The Greek philosopher and mathematician Plato once said: “All learning has an emotional base.” In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee the characters are learning how to grow up, learn what's right from wrong, and learn to step out of their comfort zone. During this time the characters learn more about themselves and others around them, and this brings out their emotions on the aspect of their lives. The emotions of the characters were shown in a wide range as everybody expressed them differently to different events because of the way they were raised, and the people they grew up around. As Atticus's fists went to his hips, so did Jem's, and as they faced each other I could see little resemblance between them: Jem's soft brown hair and eyes, his oval face and snug-fitting ears were our mother's, contrasting oddly with Atticus's graying black hair and square-cut features, but they were somehow alike. Mutual defiance made them alike’” (Lee 203). In this passage, we see that Jem is standing up for his father. In the beginning of the book Jem was a playful kid, but as time went on Jem developed, and grew older, and learned to help family and friends in tight situations. Boo Radley never comes outside, and nobody ever sees Boo. Boo Radley was raised by a cruel father, leading Boo to feel scared and trapped all the time. “That is a sad house. I remember Arthur Radley when he was a boy. He always spoke nicely to me, no matter what folks said he did. Spoke as nicely as he knew how” (Lee 61). In this quote Arthur see him as a crazy boy, but Ms. Maudie seems him as a nice, little boy. Arthur went through some tough things in his household with his parents, and finding friends and people to go around. Arthur Radley’s emotions are lonely and scared. He is lonely being trapped in the house and scared from his parents. Through it all Arthur is not a crazy man like the people of Maycomb think so. Author has a true heart of helping people and watching out for them. In this passage Boo Radley saw and heard that Jem and Scout were in trouble and came running to help the. Boo shows an emotion of kindness and caring. He wa kind to help those in trouble and care for them. Boo’s a man always watching out for others in the town of Maycomb.
