Jennifer, You bring up a great point regarding our past experiences shaping who we are. I also felt a connection when Myles’ shared a recap of his childhood memories. Specifically, when he stated, “I never felt sorry for myself” because I just accepted the fact that those were the conditions (Horton & Freire, 1990, p. 15). I truly admired how at the age of “15” he was able to be so mature. I connected with this because many times as educators we see students, as well as the parents, choose to fault their current condition. I think that as educators we need to find ways to help to change their outlook so they are able to thrive by getting rid of that approach.
