Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. indeed came to Montevallo High School on March 3, 2017, to unite us as a whole by opening the student body to enlighten them about the rough times he had with the Civil Rights Movement. The seventy-five-year-old civil right activist was headed to Selma, Alabama, for the “Bloody Sunday” march across the bridge. At the beginning, of the speech he shared with us a poem “I AM SOMEBODY” written by Reverend William H. Borders, Sr. The poem is about how people may not be great in a subject but are great in life just because those people are somebody.
In the midst of his speech, Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. talked about his past experiences with his acquaintance, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. . He told the students of Montevallo
