At one point, Jesse Owens was the most prominent athlete in the entire world. He also would have been your average citizen working in the blue collar class. Jesse Owens, you could say, had a part in ending World War II. You could also say that he beat three world records and tied one in a forty-five minute track meet (Baker). Owens was a track athlete who competed in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany in front of Adolf Hitler, who three years later would start World War II. Owens will forever be one of the best athletes to ever race for the United States. Jesse Owens is a hero to many different kinds of people. Jesse was intelligent, daring, and very fast; he persevered through hard times to break numerous world records, kept motivated after everyone forgot about him, and influenced and set an example for us all on how to be a model U.S. citizen. Jesse Owens up bringing was very burdensome, yet looking at his accomplishments you would not know that (Rennert 19). He was faced with a great deal of adversity. Jesse was the youngest of 10 (19). Jesse Owens is a hero in a plethora of people’s eyes. Jesse was raised in poverty in a family of 10. He worked his way to the top of the track and field world, beating world records and breaking racial barriers. He eventually hit a roadblock when he got back to the United States. When he could not find a job and felt like giving up, her preserved and bettered his life and thousands of others. He became a successful motivational speaker and improved other people’s lives.
