We have learned the speech of John F. Kennedy for some weeks, and his speech is valuable for us to learn some rhetorical techniques. John F. Kennedy delivered this speech in 1961, June 21st. JFK was the 35th president of the America and he got a highest rate of support because of his significant speech. He used some of the techniques to lead his audiences’ emotions followed his speech. Not only the Americans, but also other areas’ people all appealed by his speech. So, what kinds of intelligent skills did he use in his speech that made it so influential to the listeners and appealed them to support him is what we need to learn.

Parallelism is the one which was the most commonly used term. Parallelism is the arrangement of words, phrases, clauses, or larger structures placed side by side, making them similar in form. As a result, if you use parallelism, the structure of the text will be balanced; the intonation will be rhythmic; the words will be seditious. From the sixth paragraph to the tenth paragraph, every section began with “to those”, “to our”, or “to that”. These paragraphs focused on the relationship between America and other countries or people. JFK emphasized that we had to enhance our rally power with friends and nearby countries to protect ourselves. “We renew our pledge of support—to prevent it from becoming merely a forum for invective—to strengthen its shield of the new and the weak—and to enlarge the area in which its writ may run.” this sentence drove the listeners from other places to believe that he could help them and burned their emotions.
